“You Can Go Home Again” (sorry Thomas Wolfe)

Long Island Sound where I learned to swim

“California to Connecticut and back again”

My life began in Connecticut but I have spent most of my adult life in California.  Both are home to me , Connecticut because I have family there  and California because it changed my life. They are two of the most progressive states in the country, both full of natural beauty and lots of shoreline.

I recently returned to Connecticut for my uncle Larry’s 80th birthday celebration in West Hartford. I had forgotten how green it is there because of all the years of drought we have experienced in California.

The reservoir was were we took our morning walks.

So this is how I spent my 4th of July with my cousins (and their 10 children , 9 of them girls) enjoying the beautiful weather, familiar surroundings celebrating a family milestone.

Lucky only boy cousin Ben.

Fun trip but always nice to come back home to Malibu.

“I Am The Elephant In The Room”

“A Horse of An Different Color”

IMG_4229IMG_4230 copy

This is one of the most brilliant “picture” books I have read. Bursting with pithy satirical wit and commentary ” I Am The Elephant in the Room” is a must read. The art work is gorgeous.  Not only is Mr. Bender a brilliant writer and director but also a gifted artist . Just in case the name does not “ring a bell”  think “Lost”, “Game of Thrones” and  “The Soprano’s ” .

I met Jack and his wife actress and now Rabbi Laura Owens about 20 years ago when they were contemplating buying a home in Malibu. Brentwood won out but I kept in touch and followed their careers.  Facebook reunited us and I was very excited to attend Jack’s  book signing and art opening at the Main Street Gallery in Venice.

This book is now on my gift list for all my witty and open minded friends. Great gift for Father’s day , as well.

Emmy nominated writer Craig Wright of “Six Feet Under” gives us “The Pavilions” a play about romance and dreams left behind to be recaptured in time. The play is directed by  current resident director, Jeremy Skidmore.

A twentieth year high school reunion is the setting for Peter’s attempt to woo back his high school love Kari after a pregnancy ended their relationship. Kari’s resentment places an obstacle in Peter’s path to revive his first love.

The Pulitzer nominated play is composed of a village of characters, performed by a single narrator as the play travels through the past toward the future to the epiphany . The denouemont rushes in like the  rising tide on this small town.
