Happy New Year and Welcome 2017!

“Grateful to be a Californian”

Happy New Year from Malibu!  We have been blessed with rain this year and (so I have heard) “all planets are moving forward”.  During the holiday season I spent a lot of time in-between  rain showers walking on the beach.  Nothing better than winter in paradise   with its fabulous low tides.

Malibu Country Mart is hosting one of the new year’s first events as the new venue for “Fire Ball Tim’s Wheels and Waves”.

I have attended this event several times at its old venue and the most amazing vintage and classic cars are displayed at these events. This meet up of vintage and exotic car owners is an on going event which will appear the third Sunday of every month at the Malibu Country Mart through June of 2017.  Admission is free and photo taking is welcome.

What is more Californian than Malibu and cars??? Throw in a bit of coffee (and maybe some comedians in cars) and you have a perfect way to start your Sunday!

7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

COST: Free and open to the public

WHERE: Malibu Country Mart
3835 Cross Creek Rd.
Malibu, CA 90265

Malibu Local News of the Week

“Good news/bad news and something in between”!

img_4370Special offer (say “Gracee” sent you)

This spring, after a physically brutal move lugging things up what seemed like a “zillion” steps, I ached from the neck down .  When I saw this ad in the Malibu Times I immediately made my “911” phone call to Jessica of Balancing Touch.

Jessica arrived at my home shortly thereafter and gave me the best deep tissue massage I have experienced here in Malibu.  She has skilled hands, a calm demeanor and heavenly music. The first massage is $100 for 90 minutes so it is a win/win to give “Balancing Touch” a try. (310) 429-1068 to phone or text.   Coming soon hot lava shells with all massages and a body scrub service!!

Ralph’s Ends its Recycling Program in Malibu

I just learned Ralph’s is getting rid of their recycling machines and will no longer take empty bottle back inside the store.  This is bad news since there is not another place locally where you can redeem bottles for your CVS.

Good news is, behind Ralph’s in Agoura Hills  is a Replanet Recycle Center  at 5727 Kanan Rd (enter via back alley on Thousand Oaks Blvd). So load up your trunk and next time you are running errands drop your empty glass, cans and bottles at Replanet and get your CRV .

Charter Spectrum

This is, not surprisingly the “BAD”.   Charter is trying to manipulate customers moving locally into transferring their cable and internet accounts in lieu of  closing them. They attempt to lure you in with the inexpensive $9.00 transfer fee vs the higher new install fee (which varies by your order).  However, if you close your current account and open a new account you will be eligible for various promo rates again that easily wipe out the “savings” of a transfer.  Because if you take your current account to your new residence as soon as the continuing year is up on it, your rates will skyrocket!  Example, I went from $113 a month to $186!!  I was able to get it down to $156 by going to our local office but that is still a considerable price increase. Below is the email for the consumer department of the CPUC. Please take a moment to let them know how you feel about this consumer scam and Charter service in general. nathan.christo@@cpuc.ca.gov. These agency is our advocate.

Have a good week!

The block party is one of the most fun events of the summer in Malibu. The Country Mart transforms itself into a colorful street fair offering Tarot card readings, face painting, henna tattoos and caricature portraits.  There is also a great petting zoo for the children. A mobile photo booth is available to capture your favorite moments.

The Malibu Country Mart leads the trend in eco-friendly practices from 3 electric car charging stations to a chemical-free sandbox in the children’s playground.

The Malibu Country offers fine boutique shopping and wonderful restaurants like Tra Di Noi and Mr. Chow.  So stop by and enjoy your Sunday at the  Malibu Country Mart.

“Malibu Grand Tasting and Nautica 29”

web-sized-logo-6

This weekend in Malibu promises to bring some relief from the heat and lots of fun at the beach.  Saturday, September 19th is the first day of  the Malibu Nautica Triathlon which celebrates its 29th year here.  Presented by Equinox, the Triathlon includes a half-mile swim, 18 mile bike ride and 4 mile run.  The event takes place at Zuma beach and all money raised will be donated to Los Angeles Pediatric Cancer research Program.

Later in the day, Malibu Lumber Yard is the place to be for a cool down at the “Grand Tasting” .

Alan Semsar, CEO of Barcelona Enterprises chose the Lumber Yard because it offers a “rich, elegant” atmosphere.  The party begins at 4:00 PM on Saturday and runs until 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $65 and proceeds go to Rock Against Trafficking, a nonprofit organization raising awareness of human trafficking.  Tickets may be purchased through Eventbrite.  For more information call Semsar at 818-028-4050.
