Happy Fourth of July 2017!

“Malibu Celebrates with Parades, Picnics and Fire Works”!

The USA has made it to year 241, which is certainly something to celebrate!  We have survived a lot in that time so we should celebrate are resilience!  We should also basque in the beauty of our diversity and continue to honor it.  Freedom of speech and the press are two other great gifts which we must continue to protect for ourselves and those who come after us.

A fun way to start the day is the annual Point Dume parade and picnic. This is the 18th year for the Point Dume parade and picnic. Organizer Doug Randall estimates around 1700 people attended last year’s event. The parade begins at 10:AM where Bluewater and Birdview meet. The decorated golf carts, dogs, bikes etc are something to behold. The picnic at Point Dume Marine Science School goes until 2 P.M. There will be music, hot dogs and burgers etc for purchase.

This year there will be barges on the water off the Malibu Colony and Paradise Cove providing the annual fireworks displays! The shows should begin by 9 PM and wind up no later than  10 PM.  These stellar displays always manage to exceed our expectations!

Enjoy the holiday festivities, drive carefully and always remember there is Lyft, Uber and other ride services for your safety and conveniences. Be sure to keep your pets indoors and as sound proof as possible.

Happy 241!

“California to Connecticut and back again”

My life began in Connecticut but I have spent most of my adult life in California.  Both are home to me , Connecticut because I have family there  and California because it changed my life. They are two of the most progressive states in the country, both full of natural beauty and lots of shoreline.

I recently returned to Connecticut for my uncle Larry’s 80th birthday celebration in West Hartford. I had forgotten how green it is there because of all the years of drought we have experienced in California.

So this is how I spent my 4th of July with my cousins (and their 10 children , 9 of them girls) enjoying the beautiful weather, familiar surroundings celebrating a family milestone.

Happy 240th Birthday to the USA!

“We are  already a great country”

I am a first generation American on my father’s side and on my mother’s, only a second generation American.  I  am  smorgasbord of primarily western European countries and mixed faiths but I am an American. This is what America has always been about in its humanly imperfect manner. The variety of “countries of origin” is greater with modern travel but the concept must remain the same.  The more variety we attain, the greater and more innovative we will become in future years.

The best way to start the 4th is the Point Dume Parade.  The parade begins at 9 AM at Birdview Ave and Bluewater Rd ending at Point Dume Marine Science School, followed by a traditional 4th of July Picnic. This years picnic will offer tug of war, 3 legged races and egg tosses.  The parade will be lead by veterans on motorcycles.

Malibu always has some great fireworks displays and this year is no exception. All displays will run from 9 PM -10 PM.  Here are the locations where the displays may be viewed:

Pre-fourth of July fireworks will be held on Saturday July 2nd between Carbon Cyn and La Costa Beach.

Monday July 4th locations are Paradise Cove  and between Broad Beach and Malibu Colony.

Please remember safety and the laws regarding fire works.  The City of Malibu ordinance restricts fireworks usage in the city and the sale or possession of fireworks , as well.  Please keep your pets indoors.

Happy Fourth of  July!  Here is to the next 240!!!
